Cheesy Hamburger Hash for Dinner

Hearty & Filling

When the weather gets colder, there’s something deeply satisfying about combining ingredients like potatoes and meat. These comfort foods, often known as hash dishes, become particularly appealing. They blend proteins and carbohydrates, offering that extra energy boost to stay warm and active during chilly months. Hash dishes are not only flavorful and fulfilling but also versatile—they make a fantastic choice for breakfast, lunch, or as a tasty side dish. They’re a great, budget-friendly, solution for the entire family, no matter the time of day.

Try this Cheesy Hamburger Hash, an easy comfort food recipe for a yummy blend of cheese, hamburger, and diced potatoes—a simple and satisfying dish our family loves.

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion
  • 4 cups white potatoes, diced
  • 1lb lean ground beef
  • 2 tsp each: salt, garlic powder
  • ½ tsp dried paprika
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • Shredded cheddar to top

  1. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat, then add diced onions and potatoes.
  2. Cook, stirring occasionally, until potatoes have softened enough to pierce easily. Cover with a lid to speed up the process, if needed.
  3. Add beef and spices and stir to combine.
  4. Continue cooking until beef is no longer pink and potatoes are fork tender.
  5. Top with a layer of shredded cheddar cheese, or mix in some ketchup.

You can add pre-boiled sliced mushrooms, diced zucchini, or whatever veggies you have on hand or need to use up. Be sure to add an extra ½ tsp of salt if adding more veggies. You can also pair your hash with a side of garlic bread, a fresh green salad, or a sunny-side-up egg for a delicious and well-balanced meal.
