Ingredients & Supplies

  •  6 lbs Apples (about 40 medium-sized apples)
  • 10 cups Water
  • 4 1/2 cups Sugar
  • 1 cup Corn starch
  • 3 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients except the lemon juice in a large pot and boil for a few minutes.
  2. Add the lemon juice and two drops of yellow food coloring.
  3. Allow the filling to cool to room temperature. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
  4. Use sterilized glass jars to store the filling. The mixture will fill up to 7 quart-sized jars.
  5. Fill the jars, leaving about 1/2 inch of space near the top and seal. Bath boil the jars for 15-20 to ensure they’re safe for long-term storage.
